Here at Millhouse Landscapes, we have been awarded a top accolade at the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) Awards 2014, sponsored by Bradstone.
We were awarded for our work on the Bendham project. The client wanted to expand their drive in order to accommodate their teenagers’ new cars and improve the overall feel and first impression received when approaching the property. They also wanted to cure the drainage/damp problem from road water run-off. It scooped Highly Commended prize in the Hard Landscaping category.
We were also Commended in the Project Value £100,000 to £250,000 category for our work on building a ‘period greenhouse’ with growing area, terrace, aviary, double garage and the recent construction of a gym / entertainment room for a client, all surrounded by a new planting scheme.
The winners, announced at Gibson Hall in London on 12 March 2014 gain national recognition for their achievements and are testament to the high calibre landscaping offered by APL members.
Chair of the judges Richard Barnard comments “I never cease to be amazed at the constant high skill levels in producing such a variety of inspiring schemes by APL members. As we hopefully exit the economical restraints of recent years we are hit by atrocious weather conditions, yet this year’s awards show the strength and determination of companies in producing schemes of outstanding merit. The ceremony is an inspiring day for the industry.â€
Tim Williams of Millhouse Landscapes said: “These awards are the ‘Oscars’ for the landscape industry, even more so when presented in such a magnificent building. I was very proud to receive two awards on behalf of our dedicated and hard working staff.”
The awards, now in their 18th year, recognise and promote the very best in landscaping undertaken by APL members in categories that range from smaller projects, special features and garden maintenance to contracts of over £250,000. The awards are a celebration of the high standards that have been achieved by members and demonstrate the APL’s commitment to quality landscaping.
APL members attending the event also heard an inspirational and motivating talk from former Royal Air Force fast jet pilot Mandy Hickson.
This year’s judges were Richard Barnard from Hillier Landscapes, Bob Sweet, ex RHS Head of Garden Judging, Sorrel Everton from Gardens Illustrated, Robin Templar Williams of Robin Williams and Associates, and James Steele-Sargent from Arun Landscapes.
